What a movement! What a lady behind this movement that has within 5-6 years conquered the world. Longboard Girls Crew was born out of passion, out of understanding that if we do have an occupation in life that fills our hearts and souls with joy, this needs to be accessible for everyone. And especially to women, as the board- and action sports industry in the beginning of 2010 was still mainly dominated by men. Valeria Kechichian quit her well-paid job in a lawyer’s office in Madrid in order to live out of her sport. And she did well, as it wasn’t at all about her, she recognized this huge potential in women, the already existing scene, and she brought all the girls driving for the same passion together. Very soon, due to the too numerous skateboarders in Madrid, police closed some streets for skating and a real avalanche of passion, riding, enjoying broke out. Girls from all different horizons and in all countries came together for the sheer joy of having fun, sharing, dancing! And the boys have joined as well. In our 25 years career of 7sky Magazine, discovering the Longboard Girls Crew Movement with over 250’000 members worldwide, 80 ambassadors in 180 countries with videos obtaining regularly 14 million views was one of our absolute highlights, as it showed a clear solution to the frustration most women in the riding scene experience, not to be recognized for who they are! This state is greatly changing at the moment, many riding women movements are born as we speak, and there is definitely a worldwide reference and success story for all this, called the Longboard Girls Crew, about to expand and open their wings for becoming the next reference in our world, not only in action sports for women, camaraderie and love for what they do, but also for the women’s role in general in our society. To be followed!
