This beautiful message was sent to us by someone named Andy from Arizona.
“I hope this photo reaches many people.” (Unfortunately, I don’t even know her name. I should have asked her to take off her glasses. But I was simply too excited, too moved by the moment.)
She is almost 100 years old and is a highly respected member of the Navajo Indian tribe. She doesn’t speak a word of English because she rejects the language of the elites. Her daughter translated our conversation.
When I asked her if I could take a portrait of her, she looked at me silently for a long time. Then she said she had never been photographed, but she would make an exception for someone who had traveled thousands of kilometers to meet her.
I hadn’t mentioned at any point that I was from Germany. I got chills all over.
When we said goodbye, she looked into my eyes. “The future will be beautiful. More beautiful than anything people can imagine right now.”
This is the message she wants to convey. This is her vision for anyone who sees this photo of her.
