TRUTH: We ALL have battles; physically, spiritually, emotionally, imagined or real, BATTLES take place EVERYDAY to ALL of US. FIGHTING self disapproval in the mirror, FIGHTING off a physical attacker, FIGHTING day to day stresses, battles can take many forms. They may be small, big or EPIC but the fact remains EVERY BATTLE, no matter the size, CHANGES YOU. In this inevitable change WE HAVE POWER, power to grow, learn, LOVE. My name is Katy Doherty and I am the CEO & creative designer of KD Custom Jewelry.
I never planned on starting a business.
Realistically I am on more of a quest, a QUEST to spread LOVE, empower people to FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT, and remind people YOU ARE PERFECT, JUST THE WAY YOU ARE!
Here is a little bio on my company background 🙂
Thanks to my Mom, I grew up learning that art was boundless and everywhere. She encouraged my creative inspirations no matter how messy things got. Clay, crayons, markers, paint, glue and scissors have been a part of my artistic arsenal for over 30 years! My art career led me down numerous exciting paths. At age 17 I produced artwork for a major surf brand, and at 21 I became a professional muralist. At that time paint ran through my veins. Although, like many artists, my desire to try multiple facets of creative expression was calling me to try something new! Five years ago, I traded my paintbrushes for pliers and fell in love with jewelry making!
My love affair with jewelry making started one Christmas long-ago. I couldn’t afford presents for my friends and family so I had an idea to take apart all of my jewelry and remake new things to give as gifts. The impact that these first pieces of jewelry I made, created an unbelievable domino effect that has lead me to this point. In all honesty, I never imagined my art and passion to give would create a business. I feel so blessed for the opportunity to help heal and inspire others through my work. I put my heart into every piece of jewelry I handcraft. I never re-create the same exact piece twice; which gives everyone a one of a kind work of art.
Every gemstone used in my designs, I hand select. It is vital for me to touch and feel every stone to make sure it is of the highest quality. I believe gemstones have healing properties which promote overall well-being; therefore, I make sure the stones I utilize have high vibrational energy. The metal components used in my designs are all lead-free and hypoallergenic. I do my best to purchase these components from small local businesses so I can foster good relationships with fellow small business owners; I believe in supporting local economic growth. I consciously choose to buy my many of my jewelry components from American companies who strive to practice good environmental and labor policies. My heartfelt intention is to make my jewelry unique, beautiful and ethically sourced.
Compassion and kindness are the motivating values that my company is based on.
Giving back to my local and global community is my number one priority! A portion from every sale is donated to nonprofit organizations that are working towards curing diseases, keeping children safe and healthy, and preserving and protecting our environment.
