For the past months actress and activist Shailene Woodley, musician Nahko Bear, together with Standing Rock Reservation Community and many other indigenous tribe united for one cause: the protection of clean water and Mother earth! For the first time in history so many indigenous tribes gathered with one common message: we need to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energies and we’re asking our Governments to do so. Peaceful protesters have been gathering and praying everyday to ask to halt the construction of Dakota Access Pipeline, a many $ billion project which aims to transport crude oil from the North Dakota Bakken region through South Dakota and Iowa into Illinois, crossing the Missouri River. The protestors are turning up everyday to the construction site for a peaceful protest in the name of nature preservation and human rights: the pipeline project could cause irreversible harm to the drinking water for the Standing Rock community – living one mile from the river – as well as to the river’s ecosystem.
“What is happening is not just about Standing Rock Reservation people, it’s about all of us, we are all indigenous people to Mother Earth, we are all part of Nature. We have to work on ourselves to realize this fundamental truth. We need to stand tall and ask for change!” Shailene Woodley
The actress has been broadcasting daily passing infos about the peaceful protest. The Obama has put a temporary halt on the construction but the fight is far to be won… and we all play a role in asking our Governments worldwide to choose green energy instead of fossil fuels. Last Monday Shailene Woodley was arrested during the protests on the Access Dakota Pipeline and than released… she’s now back to supporting the movement!
