Until the age of 8 years old both girls and boys feel free to express their emotions naturally. After that, men gradually start repressing their tears and vulnerability because of social conditionings. This repression is like a bomb hidden inside. I feel it’s time to reclaim that space of free expression for men too. This could be a reason why, as a yoga and free movement teacher, I witness many more women than men dedicating themselves to activities where you are called to feel and express all that you are. I think of practices like yoga, meditation and dancing. Real man do cry, do feel emotions, do yoga, do dance and express themselves fully.
Maud Fernhout is a 19 years old talented photographer who dedicated a whole photographic project to this subject complementing the male experience with crying and the female taboos around laughter. The result is a deep and fascinating voyage through human emotions, through and beyond gender stereotypes.
