To get art out of the museum and invite visitors to discover nature, Thomas Dambo, a Danish artist, had the idea of a treasure hunt …
Thomas Dambo is a Danish artist. His Speciality ? Upcycling. He recovers waste and unused materials to transform them into artwork, sculptures or even furniture.
His latest project? The creation of “6 forgotten giants” hidden around Copenhagen, his city, like a life-size treasure hunt.
Thomas Dalbo explains:
“The aim of this project is to bring out art from the museum, to showcase the magnificent and often overlooked nature of west Copenhagen, and at the same time to offer an exciting and different experience. ”
Each giant made by the artist and the volunteers plays with his immediate environment. For example, Teddy the Friendly, sitting right next to a lake, allows visitors to cross a small stream with his arm.
The Little Tilde, surrounded by wild nature, provides shelter for birds of the surrounding area. 28 small nest boxes have been integrated into the sculpture.
At the origin of this idea, a first sculpture made by the artist in San Juan, Puerto Rico:
“Last year, I created a hidden sculpture (in San Juan, Puerto Rico). Most of the local people found it odd that I chose to make this sculpture so far away from the most frequented places. But between my visits, it turned out that many people had taken the time to search for them and visit its secret location in order to see the sculpture as well as the splendid nature surrounding it. ”
“As humans, we always have the opportunity to stay or get off the beaten track. ”
