Following the series of earthquakes in Lombok (Indonesia), the DomeLombok and PuraWorka team are working to start building earthbags domes and teaching our building techniques to help communities rebuild. Domes are known to be one of the most earthquake resistant forms of building. They are fast to build and cost less than traditional housing materials.
We will focus on teaching people to build their own Earthbag houses and supplying materials to help rebuild villages in North Lombok.
Why rebuild with Domes:
Ø Highly earthquake resistant
Ø Quick to build – a team of 5-10 workers can complete the basic structure within 2 weeks
Ø Community can learn the technique and build their own homes
Ø Materials needed are easy to source and inexpensive
In 2015 all of Nepal’s 55 Earthbag structures survived a 7.8 magnitude earthquake with no structural damage. The technique was used to help rebuild many homes and villages in Nepal.
