May we introduce you to the Team Switzerland. We spoke with Bembika.
Lots of styles on a hip-hop and afro-house music ‘with a touch of something special’ are going to be presented to us with the 8 dancers of Crew Switzerland. This crew represents the style ‘house dance’ founded in NYC in Chicago in the 70’s. Bembika, the ‘oldest’ crew-member started himself to compete in this discipline back in 1998 and represents this dance worldwide since. On the question, who are their idols, Bembika answers: “We don’t really have idols, but we have something that we like to call inspiration. It is brought to us by people who inspire us through what they did and who they are. For me, Brian Green is such an inspiration. I find my answers in him. And Michael Jackson of course.” In asking him a special story, he answers: “What’s really interesting about us is definitely, that we are all Swiss, but everyone coming from another background. Our parents often had to leave their countries in order to find a better place for us to live. They have left wars, political matters, dictators and other lives for offering us a better future. Today, we understand that we have a mission in our life. We want to work hard to thank them for their trust in us, and we want to elevate ourselves on the next level. Dancing is for us a way to communicate. A translation of who we are. A unique creation of our hearts. “
For staying in shape, the crew-members practice on a daily basis, be it through workout, running or different health programs. To the question what it is that makes them feel free, they answer: “Once the music starts, the beat frees us. For me, feeling free also has to do with education and to be able to say yes or no to the offers we get.”
