Chris is a surf photographer. No! He is a lot more than that. he is an adventurer, an artist, a crazy soul, a lover of nature, the eye of the wind, a fanatic of beauty which surrounds us but above all, he embodies pure generosity by sharing his treasures with us! chris will set off for the most isolated territories, which some people will consider as being too cold, too wild and too dangerous to surf in order to offer us these hidden jewels and fill our eyes with their vision.
Though surf photography seems to be a very glamorous job, Chris started to feel a certain sense of monotony in those exotic heavenly places. His world was beginning to become a routine. Wifi, pleasant meals and an ever present internet connexion had turned into common traps of all touristic places, in and out of water… It did not take him long before he felt oppressed by it all. So here is his personal crusade against mundaneness through images. If you were asking me who my favourite photographer is at the moment, I would answer quick as a flash, without any hesitation: Chris Burkard! Followed obviously by classic sentences of the guy who is an absolute fan and wants to share the work of his top artist. “Check his Instagram account! It is pure madness!” Yes… I did it so many times. But I never get tired of it. Sharing one of my major sources of inspiration such as Chris with a friend or somebody I met can somehow make me feel as a contributor and messenger of the generosity Chris delivers us. Each picture stands as a powerful wave of energy and dream, perfumed with a slight breeze emanating from a dense green forest, which ends up floating over the ocean. This is how I feel it.Thanks to this timeless “freezer” of the moment, I owe today all my passion for photography, surf and the daily desire to go and explore those northern countries and magic landscapes which come straight from fairy tales. Chris is telling a story through his images, lets us dream but above all, he shows us that those places described by so many writers in their fantasy novels actually exist on our such amazing planet Earth.So thank you Chris!
